Russian Officials Invited the WHO Director to participate in the G8 summit

According to the Russian Chief Sanitary Inspector Guennady Onishenko, Russian officials Invited Li Chon Uk, the WHO Director to participate in the G8 summit, which is to be held in July, 2006 in St Petersburg.
“It will be for the first time when the WHO leader will participate in G8 summit, - said Guennady Onishenko.- The preparation for the summit is in full process. The infectious diseases issue was considered as a reserve item, but now it will be one of the priorities of the G8 summit agenda”.
The draft of a document has been prepared which includes the issues of perfection of the monitoring of infectious diseases, fighting the bird flu, poliomyelitis, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and measles.
