President Putin: education will be among the topics of the G8 Summit in St. Petersburg

ITAR-TASS reports that President Putin announced education one of the main topics for the Russia’s G8 presidency, because “high-quality education serves the world economy interests”.
At the State Counsel Meeting the country leader said that “our country actively participates in the international education processes, but integration of educational markets is not possible until people are not provided with the access to the global systems and information sources as well as without educational standards compatibility”.

He reminded that this year Russia, as G8 club chairman, “suggested considering systematized educational questions”. “After all, high quality education serves the world economy interests and its integration contributes to the national cultures’ rapprochement, influences the mutual understanding of peoples and countries, strengthens international stability”, - Russian leader explained.
G8 Summit for the first time will take place in Russia (St. Petersburg, July, 15-17).

The tasks for the Government are expected to be formulated according to the results of the State Counsel meeting. Putin stressed that he expects “a coordinated and effective work on the part of federal and regional authorities”.

President also pointed out that this meeting is “just the first stage of a large systematized work”. Putin mentioned that “governors formulated suggestions that can be a good base for the plan of practical actions”.
He also believes that pre-school education should be made a separate topic. “The system of pre-school institutions for children is another topic, concerned with the demographic situation. It requires special attention and close consideration”.

Putin wished federal and local authorities courage when dealing with the questions of education. He emphasized: “Education is one of the State priorities.”
