Russia seeks more efficient economic assistance to Africa

Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent greetings to the heads of state and government of the African states in connection with Africa Day marked on Thursday, noting that Russia seeks more efficient economic assistance to African states.

“Over the recent years, African states have been more and more actively participating in world political, economic and humanitarian processes, and they play a noticeable role in the United Nations Organization and other multi-lateral forums,” the message said.

“We note with satisfaction the development of integration processes on the continent, as well as the organizational and political formation of the African Union, in which the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) program becomes a major structural element,” Putin stressed.

“I would like to emphasize that Russia consistently comes out in favour of more efficient international assistance to Africa, a combination of foreign support with efficient measures taken by Africans themselves,” the Kremlin press service quoted the message as saying.

“As the country holding the G8 chairmanship this year, we make every effort to ensure continuity in the G8 activity in the African direction,” Putin noted.

“I am confident that priority issues of the St. Petersburg summit – energy security, fight against infectious diseases and education, fully meet the interests of the African people,” the Russian president emphasized.

“We also expect that a session of the Africa Partnership Forum in Moscow in October will become a major landmark in the development of further approaches to the rendering of overall assistance to the continent,” he added.

“Russia will keep doing all necessary for the development of traditionally friendly relations and mutually advantageous cooperation with the African states in different spheres, both on a multi-lateral and a bilateral basis,” the message emphasized.
