The Russian and International NGOs visited the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan




The delegation of Russian and international NGOs headed by Ella Pamfilova the Chair The Civil Society Institutions and Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation has visited the State Council of Tatarstan today. The delegation included director of Greenpeace-Russia Serguei Tsyplenkov, director of the international human rights center Serguei Platov, coordinator of Oxfam international cooperation Sarah Kline (Great Britain), NGO representatives from Canada, France, USA, Uruguay and other states.
The head of the State Council Farid Mukhametshin met with the members of the delegation. He informed the NGOs about the socio-economic situation in Tatarstan.

Farid Mukhametshin stressed that for him as the head of Tatarstan Parliament “the opportunity to meet with the NGOs is very important, because it is the possibility to know about the expert opinion about Russia and Tatarstan”.

The members of the delegation asked several questions about the oil industry of Tatarstan, national policy, bilingual problems in Tatrstan, demography issues, safe energy development, counteraction between state organs of Russia and Tatarstan within the discussing the issue of Russia joining the WTO. Farid Mukhametshin said the Center “permanently consults the Tatarstan authorities on the issue”.

Ella Pamfilova in her comments on the visit results informed the journalists that the visit is being conducted within the framework of the preparation of Russia for the G8 summit in St Petersburg.
“For NGO representatives the acquaintance with such original region as Tatarstan is very important and useful”, - she stressed.

Farid Mukhametshin said that he is “satisfied with the results of the visit and the issues he discussed with the NGO representatives”. According to the head of the state council, “it is the real example of the civil society in Tatarstan”.

“I am sure that through the open and constructive critics of the authorities mistakes it is possible to improve our society”, - added Farid Mukhametshin.
