Brazil to show off biofuels at G8 summit in July

BRASILIA, Brazil, June 6 (Reuters) - Brazil is to present its cutting-edge biofuel technology to leaders at the July G8 summit of rich nations in St. Petersburg, Russia, the finance ministry said on Tuesday.
Brazil has developed technology that allows automobiles to run on gasoline or ethanol and several countries looking to reduce carbon emissions have shown interest in it.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva also wants to showcase his latest proposal on how to finance the fight against world hunger by taxing air travel, a finance ministry spokeswoman said.
Brazil, India, China, Mexico and South Africa have been invited to participate in the July 15-17 summit.
Lula said last week that the summit could be the last chance to forge an accord in the World Trade Organization's Doha round of negotiations. Its member countries are seeking to agree on freer trade in agriculture and manufacturing.
