The civil society creates “Civil G8”

The chairman of the President Counsel of the Civil Society Institution Development, Ella Pamfilova declared that the society is going to form its own “G8”, - “the Civil” one. Moreover, the initiators plan to advance their suggestions to the agenda of the coming real G8 Summit in St. Petersburg.

- We are not aiming to build a civil society before the coming Summit takes place, - explains Ella Pamfilova, - We just want to use the unique opportunity to give an impulse to the development of the civil society.

Next year Russia is taking G8 presidency (this year is the year of the Great Britain). To lose such a chanse is a sin, as for many civil society representatives, who could not enter the Public Chamber, it is a wonderful chance to present themselves on the high, international level. According to Pamfilova, lots of large foreign organizations from UK and Germany are invited for cooperation. “We want to rehabilitate the democracy notion”, - she says.

The civil society representatives’ claims are not mere words. The suggest their amendments to the Summit agenda. The president of the “Civil Agreement”, National Project Institute, Alexander Auzan suggests the question of the energy security; the general secretary of the World Business Organization in Russia, Tatyana Monegen – the question of the HIV control and of Intellectual Property protection; the Green Peace Counsel director, Sergey Tsyplenkov – ecological thesis
