The leaders of the nongovernmental union “CivilG8” held a press conference
The leaders of the new non governmental union “CivilG8” held a press conference in Moscow.
Within more than 25 years before the G8 leaders’ meeting, the consultations with the nongovernmental organizations are held in the president country. In 2006 the president is Russian Federation. At the press conference held today, Ella Pamfilova, the head of the Consulting Counsel of the organization said that the representatives of the civil society organizations should not lose such a chance to establish a constructive dialogue with the governing authorities of many countries. The main task of the project is the public monitoring of the G8 member countries. “We are going to check whether the beautiful G8 declaration correlates to itself in the reality”, - said Sergey Tsyplenkov, the executive manager of the Green Peace, Russia. The president of the “Public Agreement” National Project Institute, Alexander Auzan added that “CivilG8” will in no way monopolize this sphere. We do not stand for someone or against someone, our organization is a ground for the all of the NOGs who are willing to join us.
Civil G8-2006 aims at attracting a large number of national nongovernmental organizations, expert institutes, intellectual potential of the society worldwide to participate in the dialogue with the G8. There is a special web site, www.civilg8.ru , created to popularize this idea. The web resource is another instrument of the direct interaction with thousands of people and unions which, as the organizers hope, will soon respond with concrete suggestions and recommendations.
For our country this is a know-how, Russia do not have an experience in creating such a large and influencing union, so we are actively taking over the experience of out foreign colleagues, - these words were frequent during the press conference.
The priorities of the Russian presidency in the G8 are the three basic issues: energy security, education and infectious disease control. Within frames of the topics defined, the CivilG8 plans to hold a number of conferences, seminars and round tables. The nearest event of that kind is planned for the 16th of February.
