According to the Russian Foreign Ministry deputy chief of information department Vladimir Ivanov, Russia will propose new antiterrorist initiatives within the framework of G8 during the period of its presidency in this organization
Moscow will also promote the idea of mutual participation of civil society institutions and state structures in fighting financial support of terrorist activities.
Russia is also ready to stress the problem of international drug traffic – the main source of terrorism financing. According to Ivanov, during several years the opium poppy crops have increased 20 times and this dangerous tendency demands the well-coordinated international counteractions.
Vladimir Ivanov emphasized that terrorism is not a local problem, it’s a world evil. But Russia still witness sometimes the opinion that “good guys” blow up people in Chechnya and only “bad guys” blow up bombs in London tube. “The extremism together with the so called “fight for freedom” is an explosive”, - he added.
