RF top G8 adviser to arrive in US for discussions on G8 summit

WASHINGTON, April 10 (Itar-Tass) — Russian presidential aide and G-8 liaison Igor Shuvalov will arrive in Washington on Tuesday morning to discuss preparations for the G-8 summit to take place in St. Petersburg on July 15-17, the Russian Embassy in Washington told Itar-Tass on Monday.
Shuvalov is expected to hold talks with representatives of the U.S. Administration, including his colleague the U.S. president’s aide, Faryar Shirzad, U.S. Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zellik. In addition, the Russian Sherpa will have meetings with U.S. businessmen and representatives of non-government organisations.
The consultations will focus on energy security, the fight against infectious diseases (AIDS and bird flu) and international cooperation in education. On energy security, the Kremlin official will meet the U.S. energy secretary and heads of certain energy companies working on Russia’s market – Exxon Mobil and ConocoPhillips.
Shuvalov will arrive in Washington from Canada. Upon completion of his trip to Washington he will leave for Japan.
