Development of Russian-British cooperation and preparations for the July summit conference of the Group of Eight Industrialized Nations, due in St Petersburg, were the central issues at the talks that the chief of Russian President’s Administration staff, Sergei Sobyanin, held in London, officials at the presidential press service said.
Sobyanin met with British Prime Minister Tony Blair and also held talks with Jonathan Powell, the chief of staff to the Prime Minister, and Sir Gus O’Donnell, the cabinet secretary.
This is the second round of talks at that level held since the beginning of the year.
Meetings between the chiefs of staff of Russian President and British Prime Minister are part of a multi-level political dialogue between Russia and Britain.
In the course of London talks, the sides discussed cooperation in a host of areas, including some of the issues pertaining to Russia’s rotating presidency in the G8.
Sobyanin and his British hosts discussed preparations for the G8 summit in St Petersburg, scheduled for July 15 to July 17, and the Russia-EU summit in the Black Sea beach city of Sochi May 25.
