Energy safety document to be approved at G8 summit

RBC, 15.06.2006, Moscow 13:41:37.The first comprehensive document on energy safety is to be passed at G8 summit, Andrei Kondakov, Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Economic Cooperation Department andRussia's Foreign Affairs Sous Sherpa, told a press conference today. The document will consist of two sections - a political declaration and an action plan describing the specific steps to solve energy safety problems. The document will cover the questions of energy sources and markets diversification, development of energy saving technologies, energy supply and demand safety, the problem of energy-lacking countries.

Kondakov noted that discussions on including the nuclear energy section in the document were underway. Germany is against including this section in the document, he said. Still, he hopes that parties will agree on the document in St. Petersburg next week.
