Associations of people living with HIV/Aids in Mkuranga District (MWAVIUM) officials have undergone training on the protection of the rights of its members.
The seminar was organised and conducted buy Action Aid.
According to the organisation’s Project Officer, Fidelis Paul, the object of the seminar was to evoke its members’ consciousness towards making their needs known and fighting for their interests in society.
”The seminar will instill into its leaders the good ideals of administration hand in hand with advocating for the interests of their members,” he said.
Paul said his institution had decided to embark on the programme after realising that most of the associations founded by people living with HIV/Aids had disappeared.
”I call upon rural residents living with the disease to come forward and join this association, which is devoted at fighting for their own good,” he said.
He said apart from disseminating information and advice to people living with HIV/Aids, his organisation had administered education on cashew nut farmers in the district, a factor which played a crucial role in the formation of an association fighting for the rights and interests of farmers.
At the same time, Action Aid, has educated the district’s women association on social development and mobilised them on recognising their rights and fighting for the rights of children living in difficult circumstances and engaging in social development activities.
