On Tuesday, at the IAEA conference devoted to Nuclear Power regulations, the Head of the department, Konstantin Pulikovsky, reported about the initiative to form an International Nuclear Power Activities License Centre in Russia. According to Pulikovsky the initiative comes from both Russia and the USA. The activities of the Centre maybe of high value, if one country can participate in the building of the Atomic Power Station on the territory of another. He mentioned that the resolutions of the centre, if formed, will have only a consultation status. Russia’s Group also pointed that “it will be favorable for Russia if the centre is formed in our country”, as when discussing such possibilities all the countries follow their own interests.
Pulikovsky also reported that the suggestions on this Centre (or centers) will be presented at the summer G8 Summit. The initiative will also be discussed at the IAEA conference, which is closed on the 2d of March. The conference will provide a list of recommendations but no mandatory resolutions.
He also added that there is a high possibility of this Centre, if “we get assents from the IAEA member countries”.
