Man’s intervention into ecosystem would save us from bird’s flu
01.01.70
Consumer’s rights and Man’s Well-being Federal Service approved the list of measures to be taken to prevent bird’s flu epidemic. WWF Russia and Wetlands International experts are very much concerned with one of the paragraphs. The major State Sanitary Inspector of the “Epidemic and Hygiene Center” suggests application of the complex plan of bird’s flu prevention measures in pre-epizootic and epizootic periods. The plan contains detailed and valid instructions for the veterinary, sanitary and other state services.
The paragraph the experts are very much concerned with is the one, suggesting prevention of the migrating birds’ nesting in the areas of the possible contact with the poultry. “The category of the “possible contact areas” seem to embrace most of the marshes in the Southern Russia as well as many ponds, rivers and marshes in the Urals and Siberian steppe and forest-steppe areas”, - the representative of the Wetlands International, Alexander Soloha, point out, “The lack of necessary details on the measures may lead to the radical violation of this important ecosystems and finally to their destruction”. According to the WWF Russia expert, the chief coordinator of the “Traffic” program in Russia, this instruction can lead to the extermination of the rare bird species, as well as bring damage to the fishing and hunting resources, worsen human resort areas. “As far as the bird’s flu is concerned, any measures of this kind will only speed up the virus spread and will make it difficult to control the situation”, - he said. WWF believes that this paragraph should be either excluded FROM `en_en_the` paper or elaborated to prevent the nature damage.
