Social integration, dialogue of civilizations among top priorities of Russian NGOs – Pamfilova

March 9

The issue of social integration and the dialogue of civilizations are among the top issues on the agenda of Russian non-governmental organizations (NGOs), said Ella Pamfilova, chair of the human rights and civil society council under the Russian President and coordinator of the national working group of the Civil G8 2006 forum. Delegates from over 300 NGOs of 35 countries have met in Moscow today to draft proposals on the key issues of the agenda of the July G8 summit in St. Petersburg.

“Forum participants are seriously concerned over the summit agenda, primarily the issues of energy security,” Pamfilova said. The issues of social integration, the dialogue of civilizations, and efforts against poverty are also very topical for Russia.

Pamfilova said the discussion of these issues should become mandatory for the G8 leaders’ future summits. Pamfilova also said forum participants planned to discuss “the future of civil society in Russia and the law on non-profit organizations. We will discuss these issues anyway, which is good,” she said.
