International "roundtable" of the NGO's experts, February 16, 2006

Plenary meeting. Report from the spot.


On the 16th of February the “Expo-polis” Center held the international round table as part of the CivilG8-2206 project. The event was participated by experts in the major issues discussed this year by the G8 (education, infectious disease control, energy security), as well as by the representatives of the Russian and foreign NGOs.

In the opening speech, the project coordinator, Ella Pamfilova, expressed her gratitude to all of the experts and representatives who found time to participate in the work of the International round table. “I hope that the presence of the foreign NGOs will help our community, which has no experience in the consultation and discussion organization within the frameworks of the G8, find their place in this important process during Russian presidency”, Ella Pamfilova said. “Hopefully the experts will listen to the NGO representatives’ recommendations and that will help you to find mutual right way to the solution of the common problems. I wish you would have courage and excitement in the work. Let it be a real brain strom!”

Ella Pamfilova thinks that the aim of the meeting is not to get confined in the frames of one opinion but to offer a number of different opinions, points of view, out of which the final list of recommendations for the G8 will be worked out. Ella Pamfilova invited all of the round table participants take part in the International Forum which takes place on the 9-10th of March. The G8 Sherpas have already agreed to meet with the Russian NGOs’ representatives. I hope that in March will have something to say to them”, Ella Pamfilova pointed out, also assured that the CivilG8 National Working Groups and Consulting Counsel consisting of the acknowledged NGO leaders, will do everything possible to provide fro the ground to express different opinions on the discussed matters during the Russian presidency in the G8. In the conclusion she again thanked everyone for the decision to take part in the round table and wished them success. After the round table the participants continued their work in the sections and get down to elaboration of the recommendations in the social context of the priority questions of the G8-2006.
