Vladimir Putin: There is no country, which remains indifferent to the question of nuclear energy development

“There is no question in whether we need nuclear power engineering. It is the most pollution-free kind of fuel, and the question is how to make nuclear power engineering maximally safe,” believes Russian President Vladimir Putin quoted as saying by a REGNUM correspondent at a news conference on the results of German-Russian consultations in Tomsk on April 27.

Vladimir Putin informed that yesterday he called Ukraine’s President Viktor Yushchenko. They had a talk about the Chernobyl disaster that occurred 20 years ago. Remembering on the events of those days, Putin promised to help Ukraine in fighting consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe. He also noted that the two presidents understand that tomorrow is with nuclear power engineering, the question is how to make it safe.

Leaders in nuclear power engineering, France and the USA, intend to increase their energy capacity, the Russian president is quoted as saying. “Paradoxically, nuclear power engineering is the most pollution-free kind of fuel. At the G8 summit, which is to be held in Saint-Petersburg in summer, we shall certainly discuss issues of developing power engineering and, particularly, nuclear power engineering. There are countries that decide whether they need nuclear power engineering or not, but there is no country that remains indifferent to the issue,” Putin noted.
