The idea of “Civil G8” belongs to the group of Russian NGOs proposed last December to form a platform for NGOs cooperation and their dialogue with G8 leaders. The Russian NGOs considered the idea as a good instrument of the civil society. The main aim is to inform the G8 leaders about the results of the most important consultations and civil expertise conducted by the initiative of the “Civil G8 – 2006:. During the meeting Sagit Jaksybaev informed the participants about the activities of the Association of national and cultural organizations of Tatarstan, aimed particularly at keeping national traditions of Tatarstan and the migrants coming to the republic. The representatives of international NGOs asked questions about the conditions of keeping the national traditions, structure and prosperity of Sunday schools, experience of peaceful coexistence of various religions. Archbishop Anastasi stressed that the basis of balanced developing of two main religions in Tatarstan – Islam and Orthodox Church – is the absence of missionary work and proselytism both of Moslems and of Christians.
