More than 2 thousand NGOs participated in the “Civil G8” Project

The final NGO conference within the framework of the “Civil G8 – 2006” project, dedicated to the realization of the G8 summit decisions in 2006 started in Moscow this Saturday.
The Chair of the Council for human rights and civil institutions development, the coordinator of the Civil G8 project Ella Pamfilova said more than 2 thousand NGOs participated in the process under Russian presidency in G8.
”We invited to participate not only those representing G8 countries, - Ella Pamfilova said. – We cooperated with NGOs from 59 countries from all continents”.
Ella Pamfilova stressed that within the framework of “Civil G8” a special round table discussion on Africa problems was also organized.
”We consider this work very important because it’s aimed at fighting misery and poverty”, - she added.
Pamfilova thanked the leaders of global NGOs, particularly Greenpeace, WWF, Amnesty International, International Women Council, International Consumers Council and other NGOs for their participation within the G8 process. “Their recommendations were very important for all of us”, - she said.
Ella Pamfilova also stressed that in 2007 the meeting of global NGOs with G8 leaders will take place. According to her, Russian authorities will contribute to the organization of such meeting.
