The Energy Effectiveness will be one of the priority issues at the G8 summit
It is obvious that during the G8 summit in St Petersburg the energy effectiveness and alternative sources of energy will be one of the priorities. According to REGNUM Agency, the director of Greenpeace-Russia Serguei Tsyplenkov confirmed this at the press-conference held yesterday. “But there are few chances that alternative energy will be the top priority”, - he added.
According to Serguei Tsyplenkov, the attention of G8 to the energy issues is the result of counteraction of the Sherpas and NGOs within the project “Civil G8 – 2006”.
Igor Chestin, Director of WWF-Russia said that the G8 summit in Gleneagles in 2005 was the successful example of such counteraction. The final communiqué concerning illegal felling was prepared at the basis of the documents elaborated by NGOs. In 2006 the issues of energy effectiveness has become a priority despite the preliminary documents, where among top priorities were stability of deliveries, consumption of hydrocarbon and the development of nuclear energy. “It can be considered as the victory of the civil society in this process”, - he stressed.
