The International NGOs Forum in Moscow will formulate proposals for the G8 summit agenda in 2007

In July 3-4 the International NGOs Forum within the framework of the “Civil G8 – 2006” Project will be held in Moscow. Unlike the NGOs March Forum, which dealt with the discussion of the agenda priorities, the coming Forum will be dedicated to elaborating the G8 agenda for 2007. According to REGNUM Agency, Igor Chestin, the director of WWF-Russia said that at the press-conference in Moscow within the framework of the project “Civil G8 – 2006”.

According to Greenpeace-Russia director Serguei Tsyplenkov, also participated at the press-conference, it is possible, that one of the issues formulated by the NGOs will be a part of the G8 summit agenda in 2007. As the participants of the press-conference supposed, it can be the ecological aspects of the energy security.

”The issue of energy security will remain actual for the 2007 summit”, - stressed the president of the Foundation “Institute for Energy and Finances” Leonid Grigoriev. According to him, the issues of energy security discussed by the NGOs can be transformed in the future to the wide process of discussing the energy prospects for the XXI century. “We try to help the St Petersburg summit, but we also try to look farther ahead, - he said. The political leaders appear and disappear but the civil society and global problems remain”.

Unlike the G8 governments the civil society institutions within the discussion of the energy security are mostly concerned about ecology and nuclear safety, - Grigoriev explained. He stressed the importance of inviting the NGO experts to the discussion. “These issues are too complicated to discuss them only at the political level”, - he added.
