Ella Pamfilova reported that the CivilG8 recommendations were heard by the G8

During the last day of the Summit the Chair of the Civil Society Institutions and Human Rights Counsel under the President of the RF, Ella Pamfilova made a summary of the CivilG8 activities. According to Pamfilova most of the demands of the International NGOs were reflected in the final documents of the Summit.

Ella Pamfilova was the only Civil Society representative at the meeting as Human Rights activists held their Forum in Moscow two days earlier. They not only developed their recommendations on the main topic of St. Petersburg high rank meeting, in particular energy, education and infectious disease control, but they also suggested their vies on the solutions of such problems as global security and interests of the society, human rights, business and society interaction, biological diversity. These initiatives were given to Vladimir Putin by Igor Shuvalov.

President of RF gave his comment in Strelnya: “Frankly, I did not expect that the views of the officials and the NGO representatives will coincide on so many topics, especially such as ecological security, energy, education and many others”. He also assured that he fulfilled all the promises given at the meeting with human rights activists: some of their ideas were included into the final documents.

Ella Pamfilova specified which of them exactly. First, the help of the human rights activists improved the situation with the “Development of the alternative energy resources”. Second, the government leaders discussed the climate and migrations questions which was initiated by NPO. Third, the CivilG8 position on Aids/HIV was registered in the final resolution on AIDS/HIV. The only disagreement between the G8s occurred in one question: “NGO communities are very skeptical about nuclear power, they see it as dangerous and not perspective”.

Yesterday public organizations announced their further plans. At the end of the end the CivilG8 will hold a final conference where NGO communities will reveal recommendations for the next G8 Summit in Germany. “Most likely, we will try to continue the discussion of the topics discussed in St. Petersburg: migration, education and growing xenophobia”, - Pamfilova claimed.

At the end of the press-conference the CivilG8 coordinator said that Russian President told her Human Rights Counsel to continue monitoring of the NPO law application. “If the violations are registered, Vladimir Putin promised to introduce corrections into the present document”, Ella Pamfilova encouraged her colleagues. In any case, President mentioned the same at his meeting with CivilG8.
