Tatyana Monegen. And you, do you take care of the national security and public health?

On the initiative of the Russian National Committee, called ICC – World Business Organization, international business leaders are coming to Moscow to participate at the meeting BASCAP ICC (“Business against piracy in production”).

BASCAP ICC is trillions of dollars. They support the efforts against organized crime which embraced the whole world and threaten the health, security and lives of countries.

The incomes that the criminal nets get are spent, among other things, on the terrorist acts.

The world leading companies are getting together with the G8 political leaders to overcome this disease which swiftly spreads all the world due to the refined usage of the new technologies.

Do not mislead yourself with the thought that piracy is just CDs and movies that you can buy cheap.

Unlicenced medications and cosmetics, foodstuff and beverages, spare parts for cars and airplanes – these are only few items of the long list is constantly growing and threatens our security.

Intellectual property stealing is not a problem of one country and not only the problem of Russia. It is something every country has to face. One out of 10 car spare parts bought in France is a fake, in India fake spare parts constitute 38%. In Pakistan the level of piracy at the cable TV, music and software exceeds 90%, as a result, tax underpay comes to 1 billion dollars. About 22% of the Japanese corporations are worried about the pirated production in their trade with China. Even the USA and other industrialized countries do not have immune against it. Every year the economy of California looses about 34,5 billion dollars due to the pirated articles, according to the production statistics in the UK, the country lost about 10 billion pounds in 2002.

The World Health Organization (WHO) calculated that fake medications constitute 10%, and in developing countries this index is 60%, of all pharmaceutical goods. According to WHO 16% of the fake medications maintain wrong ingredients, 17% maintain wrong proportion of the right ingredients and 60% do not have active ingredients at all.

Only mutual efforts of the international business and political leaders can give substantial results.

The actions which are taken now in Russia, present the country as the G8 leader in the sphere of the intellectual property security and create a new image of Russia at the world arena.
